Indiana Container Questions

Questions about pricing, delivery, permits, ground conditions and container grades in Indiana. If your question is not here, call or text (330) 510-5817.

Indiana has a central till plain, northern lake and moraine country, the Maumee Lake Plain in the northeast, and southern hills and lowlands. That mix matters when planning container placement: a level-looking yard can conceal wet ground, while a short southern driveway may have a difficult bend or grade. Send the full address, placement photos and gate measurements so the quote and delivery plan describe the property you actually have.

Pricing and Delivery

Pricing terms. Starting prices name the container grade and the city, delivered to a standard-access location in that city. What you pay depends on the size, grade and condition you choose, on what is in stock when you order, and on the access at your site. Sites with restricted access may carry an additional delivery charge. Container One sets prices, and they change without notice. Your written quote gives the price for your order. Prices as of 2026-09-30.

Containers arrive on a tilt-bed truck, which slides the container off the back. That means the truck needs a straight, level run at the drop point:

  • 20ft container: 110 feet of straight clearance from the drop point
  • 40ft container: 130 feet of straight clearance from the drop point

The truck needs at least 15 ft of height to drive, at least 22 ft of height along the entire unloading path, and at least 10 ft of width. Low utility lines, tree limbs and roof overhangs can stop a delivery. If you are unsure, describe the approach when you ask for a quote so it can be reviewed before anything is scheduled.

Price depends on the size, grade and condition you choose, on what is in stock, and on the distance and access to your address, so there is no single statewide number. The starting prices on this site name the grade and the city they apply to. For your address, the quote form or a phone call gets you a written quote with delivery details.
Warranty runs by grade: one-trip units carry a 10 year structural and 10 year no-leak warranty, cargo worthy and wind and water tight units carry a 5 year structural and 5 year no-leak warranty, and economy units carry a 1 year roof leak warranty. The warranty travels with the grade you buy, so if warranty length matters to you it is worth comparing grades before you compare prices.
We sell containers. We do not rent them. Rent-to-own runs through a third-party partner, My Container Rental, and spreads the payments until you own the container. Our rent vs buy guide walks through when each path makes sense.

Indiana Questions

The destination, size, condition grade and available unit all matter. Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Evansville have different delivered prices even when served from the same depot. Send the actual delivery ZIP and tell us about the final approach. A driveway photograph, gate width and proposed door direction help resolve placement questions before delivery is scheduled. Ask for a written delivered quote that identifies the grade and the delivery destination.
Yes. Include the farm address and the route the truck would use from a paved road. Mention a culvert, small bridge, steep entrance, low wire or soft shoulder even if your own pickup passes it without difficulty. The delivery equipment is a different vehicle carrying a much heavier load. Container One's Delivery/Dispatch department schedules the date after payment is received and the site is reviewed.
Begin with two drawings: what needs to fit inside and how the truck reaches the placement. A 20ft unit may suit tools or a staged renovation, while a 40ft unit gives a longer run for shelves and larger inventory. Neither choice works if the approach cannot accommodate it. Photograph the final turn, measure the usable straight path, and keep the future door swing clear. Ask about a high cube only after deciding whether its extra height helps the stored items.
Take the parcel address, dimensions, intended use and duration to the city or county planning or building office responsible for that parcel. Ask for a written answer about where the container may be placed and whether a separate construction review applies. For state code information, use the Indiana Department of Homeland Security adopted-rules page. Our Indiana permit guide links the municipal sources for Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Evansville so you can start with the correct documents rather than another city's rule.
Container One does not publish a delivery time in days or weeks. Timing depends on the location, when payment is received, the weather and other factors. After payment and a review of the site, Container One's Delivery/Dispatch department contacts you to schedule the date and time. Include the day you need storage to be usable, and any event, crew schedule or access restriction that affects the receiving window, in your quote request.
Inspect the entire approach, not just the final pad. Indiana rain, snowmelt and freezing weather can change a surface that looked firm when you first measured it. Arrange stable, level support with drainage and keep standing water away from the unit. Send fresh photographs if conditions change before the truck is dispatched. The delivery date should be reconsidered when the access cannot carry the truck safely; moving the date is better than guessing at bearing strength.
A weather-tight shell is not climate control. Damp items introduced on a humid day can leave moisture inside, and exposed steel can become cold enough for that moisture to condense. Keep wet equipment out, leave air paths around stored goods and inspect vulnerable contents during seasonal changes. If people, temperature-sensitive goods or finished interiors are planned, define the temperature and moisture target before choosing ventilation, insulation or mechanical equipment.
Container One sells containers and does not rent them, so a rental quote has to come from a rental company. Ask for each option over the same expected use period and at the same delivery address, and ask Container One for the rent-to-own payment schedule offered through its third-party partner. Include transport at both ends of a rental, all scheduled rent-to-own payments and the conditions for completing ownership.
S&CC Group Inc. operates Indiana Storage Containers and is an authorized reseller of Container One. Container One supplies the containers, performs delivery and issues the invoice.
To begin, send your name, email, phone, delivery ZIP, preferred size and intended use. Include site photographs when access is tight and explain whether you want a standard dry unit, modifications or refrigeration. The email address is required so the quote can identify the product, destination and terms in writing before you make a decision.

Container Grades

  • One-trip: made one loaded ocean crossing. Clean floors, intact paint, close to new.
  • Cargo worthy: certified fit to carry cargo at sea. Structurally sound, cosmetically used.
  • Wind and water tight (WWT): inspected to confirm the doors seal, there are no holes, and the interior stays dry. Surface rust, paint wear and minor dents are normal.
  • Economy: the lowest grade we sell. Weathered, and priced accordingly.

For a grade-by-grade walkthrough, see the container condition guide.

It depends on what the container is for. If it is going to be seen, lived in, or converted, the clean interior and intact paint save real work later and the 10 year structural and 10 year no-leak warranty is the longest available. If it is going behind a shed to hold equipment, a wind and water tight unit does the same job for less.

Modified and Refrigerated Units

Personnel doors, roll-up doors, windows, vents, skylights, electrical wiring and a panel, LED lighting, insulation, spray foam, HVAC, shelving, workbenches and exterior paint. Insulation and HVAC choices depend on the climate the box will sit in: Indiana sees cold winter air and warm, humid summer weather, with a different lakeshore influence in the north. For a container project, define whether the box is unconditioned storage or a space with a controlled interior. A workshop used daily needs a different plan from a dry equipment store opened briefly. Treat air sealing, insulation, ventilation and moisture management as connected parts of the design, and have whoever designs the project evaluate the whole assembly rather than ordering a thickness of foam in isolation.
A reefer has a refrigeration unit built into one end. It runs on a 460V 3-phase supply, or a compatible generator where 3-phase power is not available, and holds anywhere from -25 degrees F to +70 degrees F. The walls are insulated as part of the original build, not retrofitted.

Site Preparation and Foundation

In Indiana, the ground issues to check are drainage, soft approaches and uneven support at the container corners. A paved entry, a gravel farm lane and a sloping southern Indiana driveway do not establish the same unloading conditions.

For temporary placement: Prepare a firm, level placement with suitable support at the corner castings and drainage away from the unit. Ask the delivery team to review the pad and approach photographs before dispatch. Recheck the surface after rain or thawing weather; the truck needs adequate support along the full route, not only beneath the container.

For permanent placement or a conversion: Have the foundation and anchoring specified for the actual soil, load, use and structure. Before excavation, ask the city or county office that reviews the parcel which construction documents apply. The Indiana Department of Homeland Security lists the state-adopted construction codes, and the local office can say how they apply to the proposed project. Do not assume that a freestanding storage container qualifies for a foundation or permit exemption.

Frost depth: Footing depth requirements vary by location, so ask the city or county office that reviews your parcel which depth applies to your address and intended use.

Conditions differ from one Indiana property to the next: a maintained commercial yard may already have a firm approach, while farm lanes, lakeshore fill and hillside sites need their own assessment. Do not infer bearing capacity from the surface color or from a vehicle track. Tell the delivery team about buried drainage, previous fill and any recent disturbance.

At a minimum, make the placement area level and firm, and clear debris, rocks and brush out of the way. Confirm the straight run the truck needs, and look up for lines and limbs. Soft ground can delay a delivery: a loaded truck can sink, so the driver may wait for the ground to dry. Describe the site in your quote request so it can be reviewed before delivery is scheduled.

Security and Buying Safely

The box itself is corrugated Corten steel. The lock is the weak point, so use a hidden shackle lock, sometimes called a puck lock, inside a lockbox welded over the handle. Ask whether the selected unit has a lockbox fitted.
The recurring signs are a price far under the market, a seller who will not let the container be seen or photographed, payment demanded by wire transfer or crypto, no verifiable business identity or contact route, and pressure to decide today. A real dealer will give you a phone number, answer questions before payment, and put the quote in writing.
